Christian Louboutin SS’14

Once again, designer Christian Louboutin and photographer Peter Lippmann bring us a genius way of  presentating the former’s spring collection, this time with an array of pastel hues, a few metallics as well as watercolor and artsy prints that include shades such as indigo, canary yellow and magenta. The lookbook shows a series of explosive, colourful assortments in which the footwear designer’s accessories get just the right amount of attention as they blend seamlessly into the intricate flowers as if they were part of the original masterpiece by Monet, Brueghel, Van Gogh, Pissarro, Cézanne and Fantin-Latour.

As Miranda Priestly would say, florals for spring are not exactly groundbreaking but anyone with a speck of admiration for the notorious red soled shoes or for the  impressionism movement can appreciate this creative collaboration. And if you’re totes fine with this typical seasonal theme then welcome to shoe heaven.

haute couture ss’14

I can’t get enough  – admittedly, maybe I’m just already in the spirit of spring and in the mood for lighter colors, fabrics and flowy silhouettes. In other words, get out canadian winter. You make my hair, otherwise fine looking, a mess that is both dry and flat at the same time and give my hands the texture of reptiles. Back to the collections. Elie Saab makes me die inside a little bit as usual and as I write this, I realize that I forgot to include Atelier Versace and Zuhair Murad in my favourites (sad panda). After some thought, I dig the lighter, less haute couture feel that a few designers’s shows exuded or at least, what media defines as haute couture since the term actually stands for a fashion house that follows a few rules such as having an atelier in Paris with 15 employees. Whether it’s to be more consumer friendly or not, it doesn’t concern me; who am I to care for a 5000$ price range when I cringe at a 50$ top when shopping. Nevertheless, I never thought a slight change in the sumptuousness of clothing would bring sneakers to the runway but hey, I guess you can choose confort in the feet when you’re wearing heavy beading and feathers right? Yeah, I don’t know if I believe that myself either.
