So sorry for the late post on London Fashion Week but since I couldn’t bring myself to put delete the draft, I combined it with Milan.
As I’ve said before, London based designers are not my forte. We all know about the most hyped up shows such as Burberry, Christopher Kane, Peter Pilotto, Sass & Bide and Mulberry, to name a few. However, after last year’s fashion week, I’ve become familiar with other designers such as Preen and Felder Felder. At least, I’m improving 😛
During the course of that week, one trend was a bit of a head-scratcher to me: latex. Apparently, that shiny, plastic looking material is the new leather (see fifth picture below). Who knows? I used to hate sneaker wedges and overalls and I might be converted to both of those trends now. One thing’s for sure, the terrific trio that consists of karlie, cara and jourdan was on fire that week. Whether it was on the Burberry runway or at the Topshop Unique show, they were often spotted walking one after the other. My top? Burberry, Pilotto and Preen. As far as new discoveries go, Emilio de la Morena and Richard NIcoll are now on my radar.
When it comes to Milan, only one show was a particular standout for me: Dolce & Gabanna. To say that I loved their collection would be an understatement. Every season, I’m in complete awe of what they create. There’s simply nothing like it. Byzantine is back and sure, their 12th century cathedral mosaics inspired designs may not knock everyone’s socks off. Nonetheless, who could resist the exquisite cardinal red dresses that ended the show? That’s right, no one.
Now, let’s talk silhouettes. From the subdued version on skirts seen at No. 21 to the amplified variant at Gucci, peplum is one current trend that will continue to shine through Fall, belt optional.
