Hi everyone! Happy weekend ! I promised a post for the edgier gals so here it is : )
Although spring and summer 2012 is all about boldness either from wearing white from head to toe or mixing insane prints together, there’s always a black sheep in the family. It’s okay though, really, you don’t have to wear neon colors to be fashionable – wear darker, muted, neutrals and jewel tones. Nonetheless, it is still important to update your wardrobe so your outfits don’t look dated ^^
The key is in interesting texture and intricate detail. Wearing black jeans, black leather boots and a black cotton t-shirt just seems so…boring. There’s something so unbelievably fresh when you include a few trends here and there. Here are some tips:
1. Spring feel: Swap your heavy knits and go for lighter fabrics – this is even more important when you wear darker colors because you want to set off the fall/winter feel. This season is all about sporting a hint of sexiness in a classy way – you are covering yourself but a bit of sheerness can really freshen up your outfit. From silk shirts to maxi skirts, the options are endless.
Lace and crochet can seem incredebly daring but they’re actually just a different take on the typical white option and look a little bit more mysterious instead of vintage and girly.
2. Elevate with light: Spring-y-fy (is that a word ? Ha!) your outfits by adding a few lighter colored clothes whether it is a fitted white blazer or a blush rose messenger bag. Spending the time to ressearch good quality clothes is important and is definitely worth it because you’ll wear them again and again during the year.
*Great shortcut -> If you don’t want to buy a solid white or cream item, choose a light chambray shirt. Effortless and versatile. Score!
3. Peek-a-boo trend: Adding trendy accents here and there will complement your basics beautifully. Think animal print, lace, leather and even fringe !
4. The finishing touch: Complete your outfit the right way. Whether you choose a gold cuff or bright friendship bracelets, jewelry is the easiest way to amp up your outfit as it tends to be trendy. Try something that’s not too chunky for the shoes unless it is a classic pair of wedges or platforms (no motorcycle boots, please). Then, you can finish off with a nice scarf or maybe a floppy hat!
The ultmate fashionista: Unless you live under a rock, you already know Rumi Neely from Fashiontoast. Although she does own a pair of Isabel Marant pink shorts, a stunning Reformation red dress and a few other bright items, neutrals like black, white, grey, navy and tan are part of her everyday uniform. Nevertheless, she is one of the most hyped up bloggers there is and you will instantly fall in love with her style. Her secret? Minimalism. The simplicity and the sleekness in her outfits radiate freshness in an effortless vibe. Go check her out!
